Band Activities

Activates change from year to year and throughout the year.  Following is an outline of typical band activities.  Keep an eye out for Email announcements from our director and EBPO for up to date information.

Band Camp (for Marching Band)

Band camp is held at Edison High School in the weeks before school begins. Band camp is typically the first three weeks of August. Typically, the first two weeks are all day, and the third week is afternoon and/or evenings.

Tag Day

Tag Day is the primary fundraiser of the entire year. Students go door-to-door in pairs in the Edison community in either marching uniform or band t-shirts.  They interact with supporters and neighbors, explaining the role of the band, reuniting with alumni, and asking for donations. Students leave a “tag” at each home with Marching Eagles and concert band performance dates. Parents drive support cars and shuttle students from the high school in shifts.

Spring Trip

Band and color guard students in good standing are invited to participate in the spring trip. The destination, schedule, and cost will be announced annually. Previous trips were to Williamsburg, Virginia in 2014 and 2018, to Charlotte, NC in 2016, and to Orlando, Florida, in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2023. Planning is now underway for a multi-day trip in Spring 2025. Information will be communicated to Band families and we invite you to attend EBPO meetings (monthly) to learn more.

Concerts

Students have several performance opportunities throughout the year. This typically includes fall and spring concerts for the concert and symphonic bands, as well as solo and ensemble performances in winter and spring. These performances typically take place in the Edison HS auditorium.
